Dad served as a Sergeant in the Army during the Korean War. He served in Grave Registration. The job was difficult, recovering deceased service men to repatriate them. His experiences took him and his men on an extended recovery mission when returning to camp in the early morning. Their code word for that day changed and they had to convince their camp guards that they were not the enemy.
Honors he received included: Award of the Commendation Ribbon with Metal Pendant, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with three bronze service medals and Combat Infantry Badge.
Dad passed away in 2018 and his favorite saying was "God Bless America". So, it was very fitting that we played it as his funeral.
