Andrew Torok, like so many young men of the time, answered the call to defend our nation. He left Northville High School, enlisting in the US Marine Corps at seventeen. He soon found himself in California as a convoy guard. Eventually he ended up on a naval transport across the Pacific. By 1945, he was in Japan, stationed in various locations, where he worked to disarm the Japanese military.
He collected weapons and lead patrols tasked with locating frightened Japanese civilians avoiding the US occupational forces. He was discharged in September 1946, however the Marine Corps never left him. After the war, he returned home and was a proud lifetime resident of Northville.
