Andrew J. Sheposh enlisted on December 8, 1941 and was called to boot camp in February of 1942. A good athlete looking for extra pay, he volunteered for special forces duty. Originally a Naval Scout & Raider, he joined the newly formed Underwater Demolition Teams (UDT) in 1943. His first combat action was supporting Operation Husky, the invasion of Sicily. He participated in various missions, some official, some clandestine in the European Theater of Operations (ETO) before his team was transferred to support combat operations in the Pacific in 1944. He and his team were part of the invasion of Saipan and we believe was also part of the Okinawan campaign. He was honorably discharged in 1946 with three Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star as well as both Theater medals. Upon discharge, the debrief was to not talk about any UDT action until 1956. He carried that order to his grave in August of 2000.
