Captain Edward J. Furdak graduated from the University of Michigan, entered the Aviation Officer Candidate Program, received his wings and was designated a Naval Aviator on April 1, 1957. He served with Airborne Early Warning Squadron VAW12 in various billets and was deployed to the Mediterranean for carrier duty aboard the USS Saratoga, supporting Marine troops in Lebanon.
In reserve Squadrons VA 732, VS 64Y2 and VS22Y3, he was Safety Officer, Instrument Flight Instructor and Operations Officer. At Naval Air Station Brosse Isle and Selfridge Air National Guard, he was the first Commanding Office of VS 73 and subsequently of the newly established VP93.
Concurrently, Captain Furdak coordinated the Blue and Gold candidate selection for the U.S. Naval Academy. Captain Furdak retired with 30 years of faithful and honorable service on January 24, 1994.
