Eugene (Gene) Fogel served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1964-1966 as a Specialist 4th Class. Gene is a qualified marksman with an M-1 rifle and an M-14 rifle. He was stationed in Vietnam from 1965-1966. Gene received the Vietnam Service Medal. Following an Honorable Discharge, he served in the Army Reserves from 1966 – 1970.
During his term of duty, Private First Class Fogel participated in, and successfully completed all phases of a Medical Research Volunteer Program. The results of the experiments were of a critical nature and highly important to the directorate and the Munitions Command. Gene received commendation from the United States Army Chemical Research and Development Laboratories – Edgewood Arsenal while at Fort George G. Meade in Maryland. The official matter of record states: “You are hereby commended for exposing yourself to experiments above and beyond the call of duty. Your performance and behavior are in keeping with the highest tradition of the military service.”
Gene Fogel is a current resident of Northville, Michigan. He continues to go “above and beyond” as a voice for veterans.
