James E. Madigan enlisted in the National Guard on October 13, 1940 until August 12, 1942. He was drafted by the Army in August 13, 1942 and served throughout the war until February 15, 1946 in Signal Corps. During WWII, he was stationed in Ireland England, France, Germany and Central Europe. He received the Bronze Star Medal.

After getting his degree he taught in the Northville Public Schools from 1952-1962 and retired from Romulus Public Schools in 1980. He was active in the American Legion Lloyd H Green Post #147 in Northville and the Ypsilanti Post #282.

He was a devoted son, husband of 55 years, dad of 10, grandpa of 25 and great grandpa of 2. He died on December 30, 2004.
