Drafted in November 1969 after graduation from the University of Notre Dame, Kip Horvath served in the United States Army until October 1971. He did basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, advanced individual training at Fort Polk, Louisiana and NCO school at Fort Benning, Georgia before being deployed to Vietnam in December 1970.
While in Vietnam, he was assigned to the First Air Cavalry Division. His first two months were with a combat infantry unit while the last eight months were with Division/Brigade HQ command. He was honorably discharged in October 1971 attaining the rank of E5 Sergeant. He is proud to have served his country and felt the entire military experience has had a positive impact on his life as a civilian.
