Richard was born in Northville, Michigan on February 20, 1930. He attended Northville High School before enlisting in the Army Air Corps on March 3, 1947.  During his enlistment, he was stationed in Japan and earned the Army of Occupation Medal.  Richard proudly served for 3 years and was discharged on February 16, 1950.  He later married his wife, Doris, and raised 5 children in Livonia where he served as Lieutenant in the Livonia Police Department for 30+ years.
