Our Dad, Steve Folino, a lifelong resident of Northville, graduated from Northville High in 1944 where he was a three-sport athlete. In June of 1944 he was drafted into the Army and assigned to Fort Sill in Oklahoma. Upon completion in the Field Artillery School Replacement Training Center at Fort Sill, he served with Headquarters Army Forces Western Pacific in Manila, Philippine Islands on various war ships. His duties as Staff Sergeant, Clerk-Typist included supervising and directing the administrative work of troop movement, typed out radio grams, endorsements, correspondence, letters and check sheets. He also inactivated units and assigned troop units.
He finished his military obligations with Headquarters United States Army Forces Western Pacific – Office of the Commander General. HIs honors include the Philippine Liberation Medal, Philippine Defense Medal, Philippine Independence Medal, Philippine Republic Presidential Unit Citation Badge, WWII Victory Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Asia-Pacific Campaign Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
Steve is also a lifetime member of the Northville VFW and served as a High School Sports official in Southeastern Michigan for 47 years.
