Our Dad, Ted Heckler, proudly enlisted in the US Navy during his sophomore year of college. In 1943, he was assigned to the Navy Air Corps. 9th battalion for pilot training. After this assignment, he was commissioned Lieutenant JG in the Naval Reserve. He served on the US Sub Chaser as an Electronics Officer. Dad was discharged in 1946 but continued on in the Reserves until 1953. He spoke more about the courage and loyalty of his fellow Americans and serviceman more than he did about himself. Only through unlocking his Navy trunk did we learn about his service. 

Dad loved his family, country and life. We are proud of you, Dad.
